Reasons for Breast Impant Removal

Aesthetic Concerns

As the breasts and body change with time following the placement of breast implants, some patients become dissatisfied with the shape or size of their breasts. Women that find that their breasts have become sagging, feeling too heavy, or no longer match their body type may consider revision or removal of their breast implants.

Implant Rupture or Defects

Some women may have experienced problems with their saline or silicone breast implants. Saline implants can rupture causing the breast to appear deflated or asymmetric. Silicone implants can rupture causing irritation to the surrounding breast tissue. Capsular contracture, granulomas, or serums are other conditions that may necessitate breast implant removal.

Breast Implant Illness

Researchers have not yet determined why some patients report new symptoms and conditions after the placement of their breast implants. Although the connection of these conditions to breast implants is not completely understood, some women decide implant removal is their preferred treatment.
